First Ever Blog

My first night of class came at the end of what had already been an inspiring day.  As a Board member of the RASTD I was invited to attend the Executive Share Group meeting with the top training folks from Capital One, Dominion, VA ABC Board, and other area companies.  Being new to the training & development field, it was interesting to hear the open discussion about challenges and pain points these organizations are experiencing in this area.  I commented to the Director of the ESG group that being a part of that gathering further excited me about making this career change.  It was great to go from that meeting to class the same night to feel like I was really getting started on my transition.

I haven’t finished all the reading for next class yet, but I can tell the underlying message is that there is a difference between learning how to teach and inspiring people to learn.  This makes sense to me.

Since this is my first class on this journey, I didn’t know how to answer the question “what do you hope to get out of this class”.  Right now I just want to be a sponge and soak up any and all learning from both Gretchen and my classmates.
